I have bought a number of CJ's books (24 I think) I really enjoyed them BUT I quit. Errors in grammar like he helped her with her burrow when he was helping her with her burro. Name that are continually messed up. Anne Jordan become Anne Jacoby. Dan becomes Sam, etc. and the use of non-existent word like four consonants together making a word. It got to the point I was bookmarking the errors when I decided my role as a reader was not to be an editor. So buyer beware that the author does not care enough to have a proofreader, use a line editor or grammar checker, or track his characters. CJ churns out the books with little regard for the details required in writing as opposed to telling. To make this simple I am going to copy and paste. The reason being if CJ had taken the time to correct these glaring problems I would have given the books a 4 or 5 on content. But these are consistent problems with all the books I have read.
Enjoyed the story and the characters who won the war with town folks, family feuders, and onery chickens and horses. Ben is like Petit 's heros , respectful, loving and honest. The ladies that love them are refreshing. Good book.
This author writes western stories that all have different main stories. This one ended with a great story idea if author writes it.These stories do have many mistakes in word usage. Wrong words, names and other mistakes that having somebody proofreading these stories would help.
CJP has written about a wandering cowboy who has gotten to old to stay on the trail. He buys a section of property east of Miles City right on the train route. He meets the chicken lady and through trial, error and gun battles they become husband and spouse. He becomes the Sheriff and she his lady. This is an excellent read for the genre..... ER
I've read about half a dozen of Mr. Petit's books. I find them quite enjoyable. These are traditional westerns in the old style of a good guy and a bad guy but each book has an interesting story line, good characters, and a unique plot twist that keeps them from becoming repetitive or stereotypical.I expect I'll add all of Mr. Petit's books to my library by the time I'm done. I enjoy his books that much.
On any given morning you can tell how the day would go. butnot with this story, This story is not a good story . it"s a greatone, It keeps getting more important, and interesting all thetime. Could not put it down until I finished it.LCR
I gave this western story four stars because it had way to much romance for me. It was a good read and I didn't mind reading the story, I just didn't think it need all the sweetness. My wife did get a laugh when I would repeat some of the dialogue between husband and wife.
C.J.Petit continues to produce wonderful stories. This is a story about a a drifter who settles down, marries, and cleans out the bad guys. Lots of good stories in this book. I like how strong he makes the women in his books. I highly recommend this book.
