This clarifies many things that the original Roberts does not mention. For example, after the reading of the minutes Roberts says they have to be approved, however, the book clarifies by telling what the chair is supposed to say. Reading only Roberts, one might interpret as so many people do, that there needs to be a motion, second, and vote to accept, however, that is incorrect. If there are no corrections, questions, or additions, the chair can simply state that the minutes stand approved. I learned a lot from the Am Institute of Parliamentarians many years ago, and much of what I learned was from studying the older version of this book. Although I believe anyone acts as chair would only need this book, I recommend that anyone acting as chair should have, read, and study both books.
When American Institute of Parliamentarians realized that untrained and experienced would-be parliamentarians can not understand Robert's Rules (which requires someone well versed in the many cross referenced passages, often unclear or contradictory, and a person with the resources such as the Institute to research for clarity and accuracy) -- AIP published an understandable, relatively simple guide that most organizations should use. Dump Robert's! Robert's is designed for the sharp character who wishes to impede and twist decision making. Alice Sturgis and her colleagues created reasonable P.P.
As a working professional parliamentarian (PRP and CP), I highly recommend this book. The explanations of core concepts are simple and elegant, with the appropriate amount of explanations given. It is well laid out and easy to consult. The scripts of sample language and the charts are great additions.Congratulations to the authors for a friendly and comprehensive parliamentary manual. Congratulations to the publishers for releasing a searchable kindle version! I'm so glad to have both forms.Because of its emphasis on fairness and its ease of use, I predict this book will be adopted as the parliamentary authority (over Robert's Rules of Order) in many organizations.
This is an excellent resource book to accompany Roberts Rules of Order. I bought it as a "gift" for our incoming Senate Chair and also for our Senate Parlimentarian at our university. We have elections from the faculty each year and this makes a welcome gift from me, the only regular staff person in the office! I admire the fine job they do and a little extra reference help is always appreciated. This is the best I've found. I even waited for the reprints to be available. Buy it from the source.

This book is an update of Sturges. Her book is the best parliamentary guide for most organizations. We are poorer for her passing, but she left us with a wonderful guide book.
A great resource for parliamentary students and professionals alike.
