From Publishers Weekly

Tom Clancy meets the Psychic Friends Network in this almost plausible primer on the history, theory and practice of paranormal intelligence gathering. The author is a veteran of the Army-CIA Project STAR GATE psychic espionage unit, where he specialized in a form of ESP known as "controlled remote viewing," whose practitioners can supposedly see events from a distance in time and space. His feats, he claims, included reading Saddam's mind during the Gulf War, divining the health and prospects of the American hostages in Iran, predicting the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and remotely viewing the surface of Mars; he even wonders whether he didn't have something to do with the fall of communism. Project STAR GATE really did exist, and Buchanan's low-key tone, full of military jargon and acronyms, detailed protocols and much griping about army red tape, lends credibility to his account of life as a GI clairvoyant. Himself the head of a psychic training and consulting firm, he insists that remote viewing is both a "martial art" to be mastered through training and rote drill, and an "application-oriented science" for use in "police work, medical diagnostics and business," rather than the romantic and familial fortune-telling that is the bread and butter of the psychic industry. Skeptics will vigorously dispute Buchanan's claims for the efficacy of remote viewing, but true believers in search of government certification for their views will be greatly reassured by this odd and interesting book. The more you read, the more you wonder if this expose is really a put-on. But, finally, the author, at least, seems to believe what he is saying--which is that, for the last quarter century, the U.S. military has been training personnel to provide intelligence through psychic means. Buchanan claims to have been one of the best of the government's "remote viewers." He even suggests that through subliminal messaging, he may have been partly responsible for Mikhail Gorbachev's dismantling of communism! Naturally, this is all pretty interesting stuff, and even though the organization is muddled, and the discourse tends to the paranoid, the book is temptingly wide ranging, covering everything from Buchanan's various assignments (Iranian hostage situation, Desert Storm) to how to develop one's own "seventh sense." Even though Buchanan makes it clear that this is not a "how-to," he does introduce the principles on which remote viewing is based. Whether it's the new frontier or simply far-fetched, there is no doubt that remote viewing is a hot topic in the making. Ilene CooperCopyright © American Library Association. All rights reserved

This is a fun read and very provides more understanding of how to Remote View. I've successfully used David Morehouse's book "Remote Viewing" to follow his step-by-step instructions on to how to Remote View. Yes, it works (see my review of that book).Buchanan's "The Seventh Sense" isn't a step-by-step manual and won't teach you how to Remote View. But Buchanan explains the principles of Remote Viewing in depth and also lays out exercises in the Appendix that I've started doing to improve my Remote Viewing. "The Seventh Sense" is a good complement to David Morehouse's book or to other step-by-step lessons. If you're just curious about Remote Viewing, "The Seventh Sense" is the perfect book. It's a very enjoyable page-turner and really lays out anything on the subject of Remote Viewing that you might be curious about. For such a "woo-woo" subject, it just seems very matter-of-fact and common sense. In my review of David Morehouse's "Remote Viewing" book, I listed some other resources that I've found helpful for learning Remote Viewing.

If Lyn Buchanan is telling even half the truth about the psychic skill of remote viewing and the US governments involvement in its development, then truth indeed is stranger than fiction, and possibly more hopeful and exciting that routine reality. As other reviewers have noted, Buchanan talks like a person who has been there and proved the ability, no matter how contrary to normal sense perception it seems, for himself. And as he repeats often, it is a skill that can be learned, but not easily. Perhaps then best of all, he provides a series of exercises through which patient students can experience and verify remote viewing for themselves. So far I have only toyed with a few of the techniques, but they do make sense, and evidently a person can gain from the processes even without the need or desire to become a remote viewer. Personal gain in awareness from just reading this and similar books is not insignificant, especially at this point in human evolution where what was once considered exotic or paranormal ability might well be essential for survival. As Lyn puts it in the book: "As one person becomes more self-aware, it raises—at least a little—the level of awareness within mankind. The implications of this basic fact are enormous."

This book is filled with firsthand stories of one of the best Remote Viewers during and after the Cold War. Lynne is "scary good" at what he does. That would make him a good candidate for elaborating on this subject. I know he's real, because I remote view, and while my skills don't nearly match his, I know this isn't a fairy tale. If you learn to sit at the seat of a Master, you quickly learn that whatever he has to say has pertinent value to the subject. That describes Lynne well.

This is a great read,I am already into chapter 11 and ordered the book recommended called Drawing on the rightside of the brain, as mentioned by Lyn Buchanon.11/01/2013 adding more,I started all of the exercises in appendix 4,the ideograms, ambience, vocabulary, sensory enhancement exercises, detail recognition exercises, and as well working on the A.R.V. process,as well as the B.R.V.These exercises really open up your perception of the world around you.If you seriously practice the exercises and really work hard at them, you can really see a difference in the way you percieve things.

I really liked The Seventh Sense by Lyn Buchanan. The book's preface "Caveat Emptor" was at least to me an original and pleasant surprise, which ignited my curiosity even more. I have not seen this before, but I think it was smart of Lyn to write this kind of preface. Here you can find out quickly what the book is all about as Lyn has something to say to each of the following types of people:For those looking for the Mystical. For the Person Seeking Self-Improvement.For the Scientifically Oriented reader. For the Person who want to learn Remote Viewing. For the Debunker. The book is roughly divided in two parts. The first and main part of the book contains the fascinating stories about how Lyn got involved in Remote Viewing and how he used it as a physical spy for the US Government. The book also contains a smaller "technical part" where the reader is introduced to the technical aspects of Remote Viewing. After reading all the good stories in the book, I believe most people will be curious and also like to know more about remote viewing. Lyn states that this book is not a teaching guide in itself, but still -the last part of the book does a good job introducing the concept of technical remote viewing. I think this a good starting introduction for those who are curious and want at least some technical details about Remote Viewing. If you want more there is also a bibliography reference at the end.Highly Recommended

So all those rumors about the US and Russia employing psychics in the Military are true! One thus employed tells a fascinating story about how he and a select group used ESP to 'spy' during the Cold War. Some operatives were specially trained in developing their abilities. Some, like Buchanan, seemed to have been born with the gift. Today, 'distant vision' is used by psychics to help the police solve cold cases or locate missing persons, but this was spooky stuff decades ago when nobody was performing such tricks on TV. Good read; I recommend it.

This was the first book I ever picked up on the subject of Remote Viewing and I think it was a very good starting point. The author is no-nonsense and tells you right off that it takes practice, practice, practice to improve any skill, like a martial art. And, remote viewing is no exception. I really enjoyed reading about his personal experiences and how his abilities progressed throughout the years, from childhood and into his military career; and also how certain sessions affected him on a personal level. I especially love that he's using his abilities in a positive, loving way - to help find missing children, etc. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject.
